वकील छात्र ने पर्यावरण के लिए CJI को एक पत्र लिखा, जिसमें कहा गया है कि हर अदालत में A4 साइज कागज का उपयोग होना चाहिए। admin, February 3, 2024 Renowned lawyer Maheshwari has written a letter to Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud and Secretary General Atul M. Khurdekar, requesting the use of A4 size paper in all judicial institutions across the country. According to Maheshwari, the use of A4 size paper will lead to savings in both environment and legal costs, ensuring uniformity in A4 paper, margins, font style, font size, line spacing, and other aspects across different courts. He mentioned that the need for uniformity in the judicial system has been emphasized in the Supreme Court circulars dated January 14, 2020, and March 5, 2020. Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi also recommended the use of A4 size paper in letters to four law students, aiming to minimize the environmental, atmospheric, natural, and economic burdens on the public. Maheshwari informed NDTV that out of 25 high courts, only 22 are using A4 size paper, while uniformity is not observed in various courts. It is essential to note that 21 high courts have issued circulars, notifications, or orders for both sides of the paper to be printed, with 13 high courts making it mandatory. Six courts have made one-sided printing mandatory, while others have not made any specific requirements. Discrepancies in formatting styles and paper quality can also be observed in different high courts, causing inconvenience for lawyers and the general public. Some high courts have ordered the use of A4 size paper with a minimum quality of 75 gsm. Some have demanded at least 80 gsm paper, while others have not specified anything. Due to non-implementation of these orders in some lower courts and various high courts across the country, advocates are forced to submit their petitions on legal paper when appealing in higher courts. If uniformity is achieved in all courts in terms of A4 size paper, font size, and double-sided printing, millions of trees can be saved in the country. This will also be a useful step for the environment. Legal Reforms in India
