He had a good relationship with Indira Gandhi. She was beyond politics. Indira Gandhi even asked them to hire an English teacher because she felt that Pranab Mukherjee’s pronunciation in English was poor.

She even used to ask what clothes they would wear. My father was a blind follower of Indira Gandhi. He had connections in every party.

He used RSS platforms to express his ideology. He talked about Nehru’s thoughts and secularism. Sharmistha said that in the early days, her father did not have a good relationship with former PM Rajiv Gandhi because Rajiv Gandhi was surrounded by non-political people and Pranab Mukherjee wanted to stay away from such people.

But he had a very good relationship with Manmohan. The Jaipur Literature Festival lasted for 5 days where many well-known writers, artists, and politicians participated and discussed topics related to the country, the world, and literature.
