In Jaipur, a new policy may be implemented for e-rickshaws. The increasing number of e-rickshaws in Jaipur is causing traffic disruptions. The government is making continuous efforts to promote development but the e-rickshaws running in the walled city have become a problem. Although the transport department had discussed creating a new policy for e-rickshaw operation, it has not been implemented yet. In 2014, 500 e-rickshaws were operating in the city, which increased to 14,000 in 2018, and now there are over 29,000 e-rickshaws, with around 20,000 of them operating in the walled city.

The Mayor of the Heritage Municipality, Munesh Gurjar, stated that e-rickshaw operations have disrupted traffic management. A letter will be written to the transport department by the municipality, urging them to start the government’s policy for e-rickshaw operation. Efforts will be made to protect the beautiful identity of the walled city, as it impacts not only the transportation industry but also other businesses. The government should establish regulations for e-rickshaw operation to protect the city’s identity.

Meanwhile, auto-rickshaw operators complain that the e-rickshaw operations have affected their businesses. There are no designated stands or regulations for e-rickshaw operators, causing financial losses. Traffic jams are frequent, making shopping inconvenient and causing frustration. Therefore, regulations need to be established to address e-rickshaw operations.
