Phone Stolen After Four Men in Chicago Chase and Attack Hyderabad Student

Syed Mazahir Ali is a Master’s student at Indiana Wesleyan University, residing in Langar Houz, Hyderabad. He had gone to the US to pursue a Master’s degree from the university.

Recently, an unfortunate incident took place where he was attacked by four armed robbers near his house in Chicago, leading to injuries. A video of the incident shows Mr. Ali bleeding and seeking help as he was kicked and punched by the robbers, who also snatched his phone.

The attack has raised concerns, especially in light of four Indian-origin students being found dead in the United States this year. CCTV footage captured Mr. Ali being pursued by three of his attackers near his house on Campbell Avenue in Chicago in the early hours of Tuesday (Central Standard Time).

Another unfortunate incident involved 19-year-old Shreyas Reddy Beniger, a student at Linder School of Business in Ohio, who was found dead. Shreyas, who held an American passport, had parents living in Hyderabad.

The authorities had ruled out foul play in the case. Earlier in the year, Purdue University student Neel Acharya was also found dead on the university campus, and Vivek Saini from Haryana was tragically killed by a homeless man in Lithonia, Georgia.

These incidents have raised concerns and questions regarding the safety and well-being of Indian students in the United States. The circumstances surrounding these cases, including allegations of negligence and inaction, point to a larger issue that warrants attention and action to ensure the safety of the international student community.
