Uniform Civil Code Bill To Be Tabled In Uttarakhand Assembly Today – उत्तराखंड विधानसभा में समान नागरिक संहिता विधेयक पेश किया जाएगा

Under UCC, laws related to marriage, divorce, maintenance allowance, land, property, and inheritance will be applicable to all citizens in the state, regardless of their religion. After the presentation of the UCC bill in the assembly, it will now be discussed. The Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had requested other party legislators to participate in the discussion.

He urged them to participate positively in the discussion for the upliftment of women, and for the participation of people from every religion, community, and sect residing in the state. Before the start of the session, the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had said that it will be good for all sections of the society and there is no need to worry about it. He also requested the members of other political parties to discuss the bill in a positive manner in the assembly. This proposal, consisting of 740 pages in four parts, was submitted to the Chief Minister by a five-member committee chaired by retired Chief Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai of the Supreme Court.

During the legislative assembly elections in 2022, one of the main promises made by the BJP to the public was to enact UCC and implement it in the state. After creating history by winning for the second consecutive time in the state of Uttarakhand in the year 2000, the BJP, immediately after the formation of the government in March 2022, had approved the formation of a special committee to prepare the UCC proposal in its first cabinet meeting.
