The BCCI has instructed Ishan Kishan to play in Jharkhand’s last group league game against Rajasthan. This decision comes after Kishan skipped matches following his return from the South Africa tour, citing “travel fatigue.” The BCCI is concerned about young players making a habit of prioritizing IPL over other cricket commitments.

There is a proposal to make it mandatory for players to participate in 3-4 Ranji Trophy games, failing which they may be restricted from playing in the IPL or even appearing in the IPL auction if released by their franchise. The BCCI aims to address the issue of young players neglecting red ball cricket, especially during the Ranji Trophy season. This has led to frustration among the Indian team’s management, particularly with players who are reluctant to play Ranji Trophy despite being fit.

While Hardik Pandya’s case is understood due to his physical limitations, the BCCI is concerned about other players using excuses such as undergoing physio work to avoid Ranji Trophy commitments. There is a consensus in the cricket establishment that a stricter policy is necessary to prevent young players from disregarding the Ranji Trophy. This decision is imperative to ensure players prioritize red ball cricket and do not make a habit of bypassing domestic commitments in favor of the IPL.
