Arvind Kejriwal to receive High Court verdict on his petition against arrest today. admin, April 8, 2024 Arvind Kejriwal’s incarceration in Tihar jail has been extended until April 15, following a ruling by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma at 2:30 pm. The Aam Aadmi Party leader, who has dismissed the corruption charges against him as a political plot, is contesting his custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). After a hearing at the high court on April 3, where Kejriwal questioned the timing of his arrest, he was placed in judicial custody until April 15. This move has led him to remain in Tihar jail. Kejriwal had argued that his arrest disrupts the level playing field in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and goes against the fundamental structure of the Constitution. The ED, portraying Kejriwal as the “kingpin” in the supposed scam, opposed his petition, emphasizing that the law applies to him just like any other individual. They rebuked him, saying, “You will loot the country, but no one can touch you because the elections are coming? You say your arrest will infringe on the basic structure? What type of basic structure is this?” Kejriwal had previously stated that there was no substantial evidence of his involvement in the alleged scam, while the agency insisted that they had traced the money trail. On April 1, he was remanded to jail for two weeks following 11 days of ED custody before that. The liquor policy aimed to reform the liquor industry in Delhi but was canceled after Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena ordered an investigation into alleged irregularities in the policy. Arvind Kejriwal
