Chief Election Commissioner Receives Z-Tier Security in Response to Threats, According to Report

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has tasked the Central Reserve Police Force with providing a contingent of approximately 40-45 personnel to ensure the security of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kumar. This decision follows a threat perception report prepared by central security agencies recommending heightened protection for the CEC.

As India gears up for the seven-phase general elections commencing on April 19, armed commandos will accompany Mr. Kumar during his nationwide travels. Mr. Kumar, a retired IAS officer from the 1984 batch, assumed the role of the 25th Chief Election Commissioner on May 15, 2022, after serving as an election commissioner in the Election Commission since September 1, 2020.
