Tesla resolves lawsuit regarding 2018 Autopilot crash that resulted in engineer’s death. admin, April 8, 2024 A jury trial was set to begin next week for a wrongful death suit against Tesla. The suit accused Tesla of failing to deliver on its promises regarding driver-assistance and safety technology in its cars. According to court documents filed on Monday, Tesla has reached a settlement with the family of Wei Lun Huang. The amount involved remains under seal as per Tesla’s request. The original complaint stated that Huang believed the Model X technology would prevent harm to the driver by ensuring safe speeds, staying within marked travel lanes, avoiding obstacles, and preventing acceleration into fixed objects or vehicles while in autopilot mode. The lawsuit alleges that in March 2018, while Huang was using the autopilot feature, the Model X drove into a concrete median on a highway in Mountain View, California, resulting in his fatal injury. Huang’s family argued that Tesla was negligent in the building and marketing of the 2017 Model X. It was revealed by US regulators that Huang did not have his hands on the steering wheel at the time of the accident, despite alerts from the Autopilot driver assistance software to do so. Tesla has maintained that its cars and Autopilot features are safe and has cautioned that drivers still need to pay attention. *This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed. * Please note that English is the only language to be used for the response.
