AK Antony, Congress veteran, hopes for his son’s defeat after joining BJP in elections.

AK Antony, a veteran of Congress, has broken his long silence to address the media about his son, Anil Antony, running as a BJP candidate in Kerala. Despite health issues, AK Antony stressed the importance of speaking out in this election to “safeguard the idea of India and its constitution.” He emphasized that for him, family and politics are separate, a stance he has maintained since his days in the Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student organization of Congress in Kerala. Anil Antony, in response to his father’s statement, criticized the Congress for outdated leadership and expressed confidence in winning in Pathanamthitta.

AK Antony’s support for the Congress comes at a crucial time, as the party has faced challenges after the defection of Anil and Padmaja Venugopal to the BJP. There were also allegations that Anil Antony’s move to the BJP had silent blessings from his family, supported by a video of his mother speaking at a church meeting. During a press conference, AK Antony spoke out against the BJP and the Left Front government in Kerala, urging people to support the Congress to protect the spirit of the Indian Constitution. He predicted a downturn for the BJP in the upcoming election and criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his party for their stance on the Indian Constitution.

According to Antony, voting for the Congress is essential to prevent the BJP and the RSS from endangering the Indian Constitution and democracy.
