18-Year-Old Dies from Overdose After Being Injected with Drugs by Friend for ‘Thrills’ admin, April 10, 2024 The police reported that a woman who had a private job in Bengaluru was taken by a friend to a vacant plot in Lucknow’s Tiwariganj and injected with a mixture of medicine and an addictive drug. The incident took place on April 7 when she left her residence in Mahanagar to catch a train to Bengaluru. The accused, Vivek Maurya, 28, from Barabanki, was arrested and was known to the victim. Initially, the FIR was filed under IPC Section 302 (murder) but was later converted to IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) during the probe. The police reported that the victim’s condition deteriorated after the overdose and she died, while the accused also became heavily intoxicated. The victim’s family expressed concern that the overdose may have been deliberate to murder her. During interrogation, the accused admitted to a “thrill-seeking experiment” gone wrong and stated that the girl had called him and asked to consume the addictive drug. He confessed to taking her to a friend’s vacant plot in Tiwariganj where he mixed the drug in an injection, first administering it to himself and then injecting the girl. The police revealed during the investigation that the victim used to live with her family members in Vivek’s house in the New Hyderabad area in Lucknow. They also disclosed that Vivek was addicted to drugs and had influenced the victim to consume them. Following a complaint by the deceased’s mother, the BBD police arrested the accused, lodged an FIR, and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. The accused informed the victim’s family about the incident, then fled from the hospital. However, the police apprehended him near the Indira Canal. A syringe and a pack of the drug were found at the vacant plot where the incident occurred. Lucknow
