BMRCL emphasized that all passengers are treated equally, regardless of their socioeconomic status or gender. The officials stated that the passenger in question was suspected of being in an inebriated state and was asked to stand to avoid causing trouble to other passengers. After counseling, he was permitted to travel.

The incident follows a previous controversy involving the BMRCL staff’s refusal to allow a farmer, who was wearing tattered clothes and carrying a bag on his head, to board the train.
