Bengaluru Man Denied Metro Entry Due to Clothes: Criticism over Namma Metro’s Dress Code Enforcement

The co-passengers intervened and one of them recorded the incident at Doddakallasandra Metro Station. The BMRCL staff allegedly asked a man to button up his shirt and wear clean clothes, or he would not be allowed to enter the station.

The recorded incident was shared on social media, with a co-passenger expressing concern about Namma Metro’s actions. The BMRCL claimed that all passengers are treated equally, based on assertions that no differentiation is made on the basis of wealth, gender, or any other factors.

They also stated that the passenger in question was suspected of being in an inebriated state and was asked to stand to ensure the safety of women and children. After counseling, he was allowed to travel.

The incident follows a previous public outcry when the BMRCL staff prevented a farmer from boarding the train due to his tattered clothes and carrying a bag on his head. This led to the sacking of a security staffer.
