Deadly Haryana School Bus Accident: 6 Children killed in Haryana as school bus overturns, Allegedly Due to Drunk Driver

Six children died and over 20 were injured in a tragic school bus accident in Haryana’s Mahendragarh. The incident occurred on Thursday morning when the bus, belonging to GL Public School, rammed a tree and overturned.

Despite a holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, the school was operating, carrying students from Class 4 to 10. The aftermath of the accident was heartbreaking, with schoolbags and bottles scattered at the crash site, marking an unspeakable tragedy on what should have been a day of celebration for the Eid festival.

According to reports, 12 injured students have been admitted to a local hospital, while two others in critical condition were transferred to a hospital in Rohtak. Police sources revealed that the bus driver, suspected to have been drunk, fled the scene after losing control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with the tree.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the driver’s alleged intoxication, conducting a medical test and discovering that the bus’s fitness certificate had expired six years ago in 2018. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed his condolences for the tragic loss, emphasizing the government’s commitment to support the victims and their families.

Additionally, the parents of one student were injured in a separate accident while en route to the site, further compounding the sorrow. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini also conveyed his condolences and assured assistance for the injured, while State Education Minister Seema Trikha disclosed that an inquiry is underway to determine why the school was conducting classes on a holiday.

The school authorities are being questioned by the police in connection with the devastating incident.
