Haryana Bus Accident: 6 Students Die in Crash; Questions Arise Over School Opening on Eid

The recent tragic incident involving a school bus has raised concerns among parents and locals. The bus, which belonged to GL Public School, was involved in an accident while the driver was reportedly drunk.

Adding to the concerns was the fact that the bus’s fitness certificate had expired in 2018. State road transport officials have come under scrutiny, with one official being suspended for failing to ensure that vehicles were operating with valid documents.

In response to the incident, State Education Minister Seema Trikha has emphasized the need for an inquiry into why the school remained open on a public holiday. She stated that the school should have been closed on that day and a show-cause notice has been issued.

Minister Trikha has also taken steps to ensure the accountability of private schools and their transportation arrangements. She has required schools to provide affidavits confirming their compliance with transport regulations.

Additionally, she has made it clear that in the event of incidents such as this, schools and bus owners will be held responsible, along with the driver. The determination to hold the relevant parties accountable has been underscored by the minister’s readiness to file FIRs against the driver, the school’s principal, and the bus owner in cases involving drunk drivers.

This approach reflects a commitment to addressing the root causes of such tragic events and ensuring the safety of students during transportation.
