India Now Home to World’s Largest Renewable Energy Park – 5 Times Bigger Than Paris admin, April 11, 2024 Khavda is the world’s largest renewable energy park, utilizing a combination of solar and wind energy. The land was initially a barren area with highly saline soil and little vegetation, located 80 kilometers from the nearest village. Despite the challenges, the area’s exceptional solar radiation and wind speeds made it an ideal location for a renewable energy park. Adani Green Energy Ltd, India’s largest renewable energy company, plans to invest about Rs 1.5 lakh crore to generate 30 megawatts of clean electricity at Khavda in Gujarat’s Kutch. The company has already commissioned 2,000 MW of capacity at Khavda and plans to add 4 GW in the current fiscal year and 5 GW every year thereafter. The airstrip at Khavda is used to transport group executives from Mundra or Ahmedabad a few times a week and is guided by the air traffic controller at Bhuj, 160 kilometers away. The energy park, located just one kilometer from the international border with Pakistan, presents unique challenges, including heavy dust storms, limited communication and transport infrastructure, and the area’s remote location. The park’s terrain also necessitated the modification of tractors to operate in the land. Adani Group’s renewable energy plans are ambitious, aiming to generate 500 GW of electricity from non-fossil sources by 2030. The Khavda project alone is projected to generate 81 billion units of electricity, which can power entire nations. Khavda’s land belongs to the government, which leased the site to the Adani group for 40 years. The company conducted extensive studies and assessments before embarking on the development of the site, which began in 2022. The infrastructure development effort includes the construction of roads, drainage, desalination and reverse osmosis plants, and the laying of optical fiber cables for connectivity. The Khavda region boasts high solar irradiation and excellent wind resources, making it an ideal location for the generation of renewable energy. Despite the challenges, the Adani group is committed to developing the park and contributing to India’s renewable energy goals. Adani Green Energy Ltd
