India Now Home to World’s Largest Renewable Energy Park – 5 Times Bigger Than Paris

Khavda is the world’s largest renewable energy park consisting of a combination of solar and wind energy sources. The park is located in a barren area with highly saline soil, lacking vegetation and habitation.

It is situated in Gujarat’s Kutch region, 80 kilometers away from a village after which it got its name. The area offers ideal conditions for a renewable energy park, with high solar radiation and significant wind speeds.

Adani Green Energy Ltd, India’s largest renewable energy company, has invested in this park to generate clean electricity. The company has already commissioned 2 GW of capacity at Khavda and plans to add 4 GW in the current fiscal year, with further expansion in subsequent years.

The park aims to contribute to India’s target of generating 500 GW of electricity from non-fossil sources by 2030. The challenges of the Khavda region include heavy dust storms, lack of communication and transport infrastructure, and the area’s remoteness from habitable zones.

The airstrip at Khavda was built in just 35 days to facilitate the transportation of group executives. The park’s infrastructure includes the construction of roads, drainage, desalination plants, and optical fiber connectivity.

The land, belonging to the government, has been leased to the Adani Group for 40 years. At its peak, the Khavda park is expected to generate 81 billion units of electricity, which could power entire nations.

The project includes robust solar and wind capacity and will use waterless robotic module cleaning systems to maintain efficiency. Adani’s ambitious renewable energy plans align with broader goals of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

The project reflects extensive studies and assessments, emphasizing environmental and social impact considerations.
