India’s Renewable Energy Park Surpasses Paris in Size by 5 Times admin, April 11, 2024 Khavda is the world’s largest renewable energy park, utilizing a combination of solar and wind energy. The area, located in Gujarat’s Kutch, was selected due to its high solar radiation and strong wind speeds. When Adani group head Gautam Adani first visited Khavda, the land was barren and devoid of vegetation, but its potential for renewable energy was clear. The group has invested significantly in the development of the park, with plans to generate a massive amount of clean electricity. The Khavda renewable energy park is spread over 538 square kilometers, making it one of the largest in the world. Adani Green Energy Ltd, India’s largest renewable energy company, has ambitious plans for the park, including commissioning 2 GW of capacity and adding an additional 4 GW in the current fiscal year, with further plans to increase by 5 GW every year thereafter. This represents a substantial investment of about Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Transport to the park is facilitated by a small airstrip, with flights ferrying group executives from Mundra or Ahmedabad a few times a week. Though the area presents numerous challenges, such as heavy dust storms, lack of infrastructure, and restricted access, the Adani group is committed to overcoming these obstacles. The construction of the park has already seen significant infrastructure development, including roads, drainage, desalination plants, and connectivity through optical fiber cables. Khavda’s potential for renewable energy is vast, with plans to generate 81 billion units of electricity at its peak, enough to power entire nations. The park will comprise 26 GW of solar and 4 GW of wind capacity, taking advantage of the high solar irradiation and strong wind resources in the region. The project also includes innovative solutions such as waterless robotic module cleaning systems for the solar panels. Overall, the development of the Khavda renewable energy park represents a major milestone in India’s renewable energy sector, with the Adani group leading the way in ambitious plans for sustainable energy generation.
