China Makes Great Positive Progress in Resolving Border Row with India

China has reacted for the second time in as many days to Prime Minister Modi’s interview, expressing hope for positive and constructive bilateral engagement to restore and sustain peace at the borders. China’s spokesperson, Ms Mao, emphasized the importance of a sound and stable relationship between the two countries and called for India to work with China in managing the boundary question.

The relations between the two nations have been strained since the eastern Ladakh border standoff began in May 2020. PM Modi had urged for urgent resolution of the prolonged border situation in his interview, emphasizing the importance of stable and peaceful relations between the two countries for the region and the world.

China’s response highlighted the need to place the boundary question appropriately in bilateral relations and to manage it properly. Both countries have been in close communication through diplomatic and military channels, with some progress being made.

However, India maintains that normalcy in relations cannot be restored until the border situation is resolved. According to the Chinese military, disengagement has been agreed upon at four points, but India is pressing for further disengagement in other areas.

China has stressed the importance of approaching bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, building trust, and handling differences appropriately to put the relationship on a stable track. No significant editorial changes have been made to this story.
