Mamata Banerjee Responds to BJP’s “Safe Haven For Terrorists” Barb in Rameshwaram Cafe Blast Case

The Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, expressed outrage over the arrests of two individuals believed to be key conspirators in a bombing incident. She accused the BJP of attempting to disrupt the peace in Bengal and questioned the safety in BJP-ruled states.

Additionally, a senior Trinamool leader pointed out that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had to acknowledge the active cooperation of the state police in the arrests. The arrested individuals, Mussavir Hussain Shazeb and Abdul Matheen Taha, were linked to a bombing at the Rameshwaram Cafe and were apprehended in Kanthi, 180 km from Kolkata.

Their capture ensued a clash between Mamata Banerjee and the BJP’s Adhikari from the Nandigram seat. Trinamool leaders raised questions about how the accused found shelter in Kanthi and rebuffed the BJP’s attempts to divert attention from the issue.

The BJP’s Amit Malviya claimed that the arrested individuals likely belonged to an ISIS cell in Karnataka, which was promptly fact-checked by the Bengal Police. The police refuted Malviya’s claims and highlighted the joint operation involving themselves and central intelligence agencies, acknowledging the proactive role of the West Bengal Police.

The Rameshwaram Cafe, damaged in the blast, reopened with enhanced security measures, including metal detectors, eight days later.
