Pakistani Soldiers Beat Up Police in Station After Raid On Army Officer

Multiple video clips of a confrontation between army officers and policemen surfaced, showing the army officers allegedly assaulting and beating up the policemen in Bahawalnagar. In one clip, the policemen were made to sit on the ground on their knees by the army officers, and two of them were seen being brutally tortured and pleading for mercy. Another clip showed two young uniformed cops attempting to escape but ultimately being caught by the army personnel.

It was reported that three civilians were illegally detained by the policemen, who were demanding money for their release. The policemen also raided the residence of an army officer to arrest an accomplice of the trio, which led to the army personnel raiding the Madrassa police station in Bahawalnagar to free the detainees, during which the policemen were allegedly tortured. Following the incident, four policemen were suspended and arrested under different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code for their involvement in the illegal detention and demanding money from the detainees.

The Punjab police released a statement asserting that the incident had been taken out of context, and that the matter was peacefully resolved after a joint investigation between the army and the police. The statement emphasized the cooperation between the Punjab Police and the Pakistan Army in maintaining security in the province and urged social media users not to spread fake propaganda. It also mentioned that the injured policemen were taken to the hospital, but their medico-legal examination was not allowed.
