Police case filed against Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K Annamalai for campaigning beyond permitted hours admin, April 12, 2024 The fight for Coimbatore has turned high profile with the BJP fielding its state Chief. A case has been filed against him for unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint, and causing public nuisance. A senior police officer confirmed, “An FIR has been registered under sections 143, 341 and 290. Another case has been filed against BJP based on an assault complaint from the DMK.” DMK Spokesperson A Saravanan accused, “Annamalai unleashes terror and incites riots out of fear of defeat,” and added, “The Prime Minister who speaks about arrogance should give the gyan to Annamalai.” In response, Mr. Annamalai maintained that he did nothing wrong, stating, “I have every right to meet people after 10 PM. Which Election Commission stops you, where is the order, you show me?” Reacting to the allegations, ANS Prasad, a BJP state spokesperson, claimed, “This is a plot to scuttle Annamalai’s victory. The DMK has indulged in misuse of power,” and added, “They have registered this case misusing police and the Collector.” The ruling DMK has fielded Ganapathy Rajkumar, and Singai Ramachandran is the AIADMK candidate. Coimbatore has been an AIADMK bastion, but the DMK alliance won this seat in 2019. The AIADMK has ended its ties with the BJP, leaving the BJP without a major ally this poll season. Coimbatore
