Police File Case Against Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K Annamalai for Campaigning Beyond Permitted Hours

The fight for Coimbatore has become high-profile, as the BJP has nominated its state Chief as a candidate. He faces a case against him for unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint, and causing public nuisance.

A senior police officer confirmed that an FIR has been registered under sections 143, 341, and 290. Additionally, another case has been filed against the BJP based on an assault complaint from the DMK.

DMK Spokesperson A Saravanan accused the BJP candidate of unleashing terror and inciting riots out of fear of defeat. He also called on the Prime Minister to address the alleged arrogance of the BJP candidate.

In response, Mr. Annamalai denied any wrongdoing and asserted his right to meet people after 10 PM, questioning any Election Commission orders to the contrary. A BJP state spokesperson, ANS Prasad, claimed that the case against Annamalai was part of a plot to hinder his victory, alleging misuse of power by the DMK.

The Coimbatore election has garnered attention, as the BJP and DMK have put forward strong candidates. The ruling DMK has nominated Ganapathy Rajkumar, while Singai Ramachandran is the AIADMK candidate.

Despite previously being an AIADMK stronghold, the DMK alliance won the 2019 election in this constituency. It is notable that the AIADMK has terminated its alliance with the BJP, leaving the latter without a major ally in this election.
