Sydney Attacker’s “Killing Spree” Would Not Have Stopped, Says Witness

The mother of the baby and a witness, Reese Colmenares, described the harrowing scene at the Westfield Bondi Junction mall complex. Colmenares was among 20 people who sought refuge in a nearby hardware store when they heard screams and saw people fleeing.

She mentioned the presence of children, elderly individuals, and people in wheelchairs, describing the situation as scary. After escaping through an emergency exit, she found shelter in a back room and expressed gratitude for being alive.

Following the chaotic events, police teams arrived at the scene about 20 minutes after the mall evacuation and began searching for the attacker. The witness recounted how the attacker carried a large blade and appeared to be on a killing spree, indicating that if he had not been stopped, he would have continued his rampage.

The swift action of those who fled helped alert others about the stabbings, and eight people, including a baby, were hospitalized in Sydney. The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of five women and one man.

Australian PM Anthony Albanese expressed condolences for the victims and their families, acknowledging the reported multiple casualties. Police stated that the attack was not an act of terrorism and confirmed that the perpetrator acted alone.
