Bureaucrat Warns Against “Misleading” UPSC Study Preparation Vlogs: “Avoid Them admin, April 14, 2024 Awanish Sharan is a member of the 2009 IAS batch. The Union Public Service Commission exam is known as one of the toughest and is attempted by a large number of people in India every year. This exam demands strategic planning, focused dedication, and a disciplined approach. Recently, many aspirants have started making study vlogs to document their journey and motivate others. However, these claims should not be blindly believed. IAS officer Awanish Sharan called out some “misleading” vlogs that claim UPSC aspirants need to study for more than 18 hours a day. Mr. Sharan urged aspirants to stay away from such vlogs and insisted that they don’t need to study for such long hours to succeed. Many users agreed with Mr. Sharan, stating that an intense study routine of 18+ hours doesn’t make sense and that quality matters more than quantity. They criticized such vloggers for confusing aspirants and thanked Mr. Sharan for addressing the issue. One user commented on how these vlogs provide misleading information and pointed out that it’s not about the number of hours spent studying, but rather about how much one can retain and reproduce. Another user criticized the vlogs for creating unnecessary fear of missing out (FOMO) and suggested that it’s a new way to earn money. Others emphasized that UPSC aspirants should prioritize quality over quantity and focus on productivity rather than the number of hours spent in front of the books. Awanish Sharan
