India’s Position in the Face of the Growing Conflict Between Iran and Israel

Iran, which supports Palestine, launched a drone attack on Israel during the latter’s conflict with Hamas. The Israeli military reported that most of the 200-plus missiles and drones were intercepted with the help of allies before landing. Tehran justified the attack as “self-defense” after its diplomatic mission in Damascus was targeted.

In response to the escalation, India expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis and called for immediate de-escalation, urging a return to diplomatic efforts. This comes after India had issued a travel advisory for its citizens in Iran and Israel, and highlighted its strategic ties with both countries. India’s strong relationship with Israel, particularly in defense and technology, has strengthened in recent years, while its historic ties with Iran center around oil trade.

Despite its close ties with Israel, India has also voiced support for the Palestinians and advocated for a two-state solution. Prime Minister Modi has condemned the attack on Israel as a “terrorist act” while emphasizing India’s commitment to fight terrorism. India’s position in the escalating conflict reflects a delicate balance between its relationships with Israel and Iran.
