Fatal Bus Accident as Kolkata-Bound Bus Plunges Off Bridge in Odisha: 5 Dead, Numerous Injured

Five people, including a woman, tragically lost their lives and several others were injured after a Kolkata-bound bus fell from a bridge in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Monday evening, according to police reports. The accident occurred at around 9 pm on Barabati bridge on National Highway-16.

At the time, the bus, carrying 40 passengers, was on its way to Kolkata from Puri. Jajpur’s Superintendent of Police, along with a team of doctors and other district administration officials, are present at the accident site to oversee the rescue efforts.

The fire department used gas cutters to free the injured passengers. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his condolences for the victims and announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh for the families who lost a loved one.
