Ghulam Nabi Azad Mocks Omar Abdullah for Spending Summers in London Amid Lok Sabha Elections

In the Udhampur-Kathua parliamentary constituency, Congress’s Lal Singh is contesting against Union minister and BJP candidate Jitendra Singh, with DPAP’s G M Saroori and 10 others also in the running. The election is scheduled for April 19 in the first phase of the Lok Sabha election.

During a speech, Mr. Azad took a dig at the National Conference vice president, mentioning his visits to London and other warm destinations, and accused him of being a political tourist. Addressing the public, Mr. Azad criticized the absence of certain leaders during times of hardship in the region, alleging their support of the BJP’s agenda over the welfare of the people.

He specifically accused the NC of tacitly aiding the BJP and being too busy appeasing them. Mr. Azad also questioned the luxurious lifestyle of some leaders despite restrictions like the Public Safety Act, contrasting it with his own commitment to the alleviation of people’s suffering.

He further questioned the stance of the Congress party on issues like Article 370 and the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, expressing his dissatisfaction with their focus on targeting his party rather than confronting the BJP. The former Congress leader voiced his advocacy for Article 370 and 35A, as well as the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
