BCCI Sets Strict Condition for Hardik Pandya’s T20 World Cup Selection in Rohit Sharma Meeting

The batter Hardik Pandya’s performance in the ongoing season has been less than stellar, with only 131 runs in 6 matches at an average of 26.20. His bowling has also been inconsistent, with limited opportunities and unfavourable performance when he has bowled. As a result, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee has reportedly emphasized the need for him to bowl regularly in order to be considered for the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. In discussions about Hardik’s selection, the management has stressed the importance of his contribution as a bowler.

Despite having bowled in different phases during the season, Hardik has not left a positive impression. His performance as a powerplay bowler, in the middle-overs, and as a death bowler has raised concerns. Additionally, the selectors have noted that he primarily plays as an Impact player for his team, which is seen as a drawback. On the other hand, all-rounder Dube, who plays for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has not been utilised for his bowling abilities this season.

Despite his impressive power-hitting, particularly against spinners, the focus has been on his limited role as a bowler. If selected for the T20 World Cup, he is likely to be used as a part-time bowler rather than a full all-rounder capable of delivering four overs.
