US Farmers Benefited from India Opening Up Its Market: Report admin, April 16, 2024 India and the United States have made significant strides in improving market access for various agricultural products, according to US Trade Representative Katherine Tai. In a testimony to the House Committee on Ways and Means, Tai highlighted the positive outcomes for American farmers resulting from the steps taken by India. Tai pointed out that as a result of the termination of six WTO disputes between India and the US in June, India agreed to remove retaliatory tariffs on several US products. This led to improved access for chickpeas, lentils, almonds, walnuts, and apples, benefiting farmers in states such as Michigan, Oregon, and Washington. Furthermore, in September, India and the United States resolved their final outstanding WTO dispute, with India agreeing to reduce tariffs on several US products. This development has created more market access for turkey, duck, blueberries, and cranberries, benefitting farmers in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. These measures have opened up new opportunities for American agricultural exports to India and have the potential to positively impact farmers across various states. The strides made in bilateral trade relations between the two countries are expected to yield further benefits for the agricultural sectors in both India and the United States.
