BCCI Sets Strict Hardik Pandya T20 World Cup Selection Condition in Rohit Sharma Meeting

The batter, Hardik, has had a slow start, scoring only 131 runs in 6 matches at an average of 26.20 this season. He has been inconsistent with the ball, bowling sparingly in the last 4 matches and struggling when he does bowl. This has led to discussion in the India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad selection committee about his role and performance. In a meeting, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee emphasized the need for Hardik to bowl regularly in order to be considered for the T20 World Cup squad.

Despite bowling in different phases this season, he has not made a positive impact. This includes conceding 44 runs in 4 overs as a powerplay bowler, and 62 runs in 6 overs in the middle-overs. As a death bowler, he gave away 26 runs in just 1 over, which raised concerns among the selectors. Another issue highlighted by the selectors is that Hardik only plays as an impact player for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and has not been given much opportunity to showcase his bowling abilities by the team.

On the other hand, Dube, an all-rounder for CSK, has not been utilized for his bowling this season. His left-handed power-hitting, especially against spinners, has been impressive. If Dube is selected for the T20 World Cup, he is likely to be used as a part-time bowler rather than a full all-rounder providing the team with 4 overs.
