Nripendra Misra, Head of Construction Panel, Conceived ‘Surya Tilak’ Ceremony at Ram Temple: PM Narendra Modi

Mr. Misra announced that the trust is committed to organizing the ‘Surya Tilak’ ceremony every Ram Navami. This year’s ceremony saw the anointment of the idol of Ram Lalla with a ray of sunlight, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of combining ancient and modern technology in the construction of the Ayodhya Ram Temple. The ceremony involved the use of mirrors and lenses to precisely direct a 5.8 cm diameter ray of sunlight onto the idol for three to three-and-a-half minutes.

The idea for the ceremony was attributed entirely to Prime Minister Modi, who emphasized the use of both ancient and new technologies for the durability of the temple. He suggested engaging with prominent scientific institutions for implementing the concept. Mr. Misra acknowledged the PM’s influence, stating that he provides guidance while allowing the decision-making to remain independent.

The trust aims to make the ‘Surya Tilak’ ceremony an annual event. Mr. Misra highlighted the need to make adjustments until the completion of the temple’s spire. He expressed confidence in creating a permanent aperture for the sunlight by next year.

However, this year’s celebration did not meet anticipated attendance levels due to school schedules and ongoing harvest activities. In terms of construction progress, Mr. Misra highlighted the challenge of managing large visitor numbers daily while ensuring safety. He expressed optimism about completing the construction by the end of 2024 with the support received.
