World’s Best Airports: Singapore’s Changi Dethroned in Latest Rankings

The Skytrax World Airport Awards are held annually, with winners being determined by a customer satisfaction survey. Over the past few years, the race for the coveted title of the “world’s best airport” has been mainly between Doha’s Hamad International and Singapore Changi, with Singapore holding the title for 12 consecutive years.

However, in 2024, there was a shift as Doha’s Hamad International was crowned the new winner, edging out Singapore Changi for the top spot. Asia made a strong showing in the rankings, with Seoul Incheon securing third place and also being recognized as the most family-friendly airport.

Tokyo’s Haneda and Narita airports claimed the fourth and fifth spots. Conversely, US airports did not feature prominently near the top of the rankings, with the highest-ranked US airport, Seattle-Tacoma, slipping six places to 24th.

European airports also had a strong presence in the top 10, with Paris Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Zurich, and Istanbul airports maintaining their positions. There were several notable movements in the rankings, including New York’s JFK falling five places to 93rd, while LaGuardia rose from 57th to 33rd.

Melbourne remained the top-ranked Australian airport, holding steady in 19th place. London Heathrow moved up one spot to 21st, and Gatwick rose seven places to 48th.

Japan’s Okinawa experienced the most significant climb, moving from 199th to 91st position. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Badr Al Meer expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This year HIA celebrates its milestone 10th year of operations, and we are truly honored that passengers have voted us Best Airport in the World for a third time.”
