2 Men of Indian Descent Arrested in Canada’s Largest Gold and Cash Robbery admin, April 18, 2024 Two Indian-origin men were among six individuals recently arrested in connection with a $22.5 million gold and cash heist in Canada. Peel Regional Police also announced that warrants had been issued for three more suspects involved in the case. The stolen gold and currency had just arrived on an Air Canada flight from Zurich, Switzerland. It was revealed that at least two former Air Canada employees allegedly played a role in the theft. One suspect is currently in custody, while an arrest warrant has been issued for the other. The individuals arrested were identified as Parmpal Sidhu, Amit Jalota, Ammad Chaudhary, Ali Raza, and Prasath Paramalingam. Another suspect, Durante King-Mclean, is currently in custody in the United States on firearms trafficking charges. The arrests came after a lengthy investigation into the audacious theft, which occurred last year. Additionally, Canada-wide warrants have been issued for three individuals involved in the case. The suspects include Simran Preet Panesar, Archit Grover, and Arsalan Chaudhary. An Air Canada spokesperson confirmed the employment of Parmpal Sidhu and Simran Panesar with the airline. However, one of them had already left the company before the arrests were made, and the other has been suspended. Detective-Sergeant Mike Mavity described the heist as the largest gold theft in Canadian history, and highlighted the role of two airline employees in carrying it out. The stolen cargo was reported missing shortly after landing and was offloaded to a separate location on the airport property, according to Peel police. The investigation also revealed that one individual arrested in the United States was found in possession of 65 illegal firearms, including ‘ghost guns’ that are untraceable. In addition, Peel police seized one kilogram of gold believed to be from the theft, as well as smelting equipment and approximately $434,000 in Canadian currency. Peel Regional Police Chief, Nishan Duraiappah, emphasized the priority of the investigation and the collaboration with national and international law enforcement partners to bring those responsible to justice.
