Anand Mahindra Reflects on Ex Jet Airways CEO-Designate Amid Dubai Rains

The recent heavy rains in Dubai caused significant disruption, with air travel affected and flooding across the United Arab Emirates. The state-run weather agency described it as a “historic weather event,” noting that Dubai had not experienced such heavy rain in 75 years.

Sanjiv Kapoor, a former Jet Airways executive, reposted a post by Mr. Mahindra about the Dubai rains, commenting that the analogy made by Mr. Mahindra was incorrect. Mr. Mahindra had compared the Dubai rains to Mumbai rains.

In response to Kapoor’s comment, the Mahindra Group Chairman urged people to consider their words before reacting. He clarified that his intention was to highlight the atypical nature of the weather in Dubai and not to mock the city.

Kapoor agreed with Mr. Mahindra, acknowledging that his initial reaction was influenced by the mocking and gloating responses from others. He shared a video showing vehicles partially submerged in floodwaters, emphasizing that Dubai was not built to handle heavy rains.

Kapoor later acknowledged that Mr. Mahindra’s post may not have been intended to mock Dubai. However, he reiterated that Dubai was not designed to handle such extreme weather, regardless of its source.

He emphasized the impracticality of building cities to withstand all extreme weather scenarios.
