BCCI issues strong reprimand and hefty fine to Hardik Pandya for undisclosed reasons

Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after his team failed to complete their 20 overs of bowling in the stipulated time during an IPL 2024 match against Punjab Kings. The fine amounts to INR 12 lakh, and it is the first instance where Hardik has failed to match the over-rate criteria. The BCCI confirmed the fine in a statement following the match. The BCCI also warned that a repeat offence could lead to more significant trouble for Hardik and other Mumbai Indians players.

During the match, the Kings lost their second and third wickets at scores of 13 and 14, respectively. This led to the hosts losing half of their side at a score of 49, with one player being dismissed after scoring 13 runs, and another dismissed after scoring just nine. Despite this, two players were able to put on a partnership of 34 runs before one of them was dismissed after playing a knock of 41 runs from just 25 balls, laced with three maximums and two boundaries.
