Indian Woman Rescued From Ship in Iran: “Never Expected This Would Happen

Ann Tessa Joseph, who was among the 25 crew members of a vessel seized by a group, expressed her gratitude to the External Affairs Ministry for their direct interference that led to her early release. She also thanked a range of individuals who worked to secure her freedom. Ms. Joseph revealed that she and her crew were treated well by their captors and were provided with food and drink regularly. Ms. Joseph was the only female among the 25 crew members and has returned safely, leaving 16 Indian sailors behind.

The Indian mission in Tehran is actively working for the release of these remaining crew members. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed Ms. Joseph’s safe return and assured that the government is making efforts for the release of the other sailors. The seizure of the vessel occurred in the midst of heightened tensions in the Middle East, following a missile attack by Iran on Israel. Following these events, the UN issued a warning against escalation, emphasizing the need to avoid further conflict in the region.
