Fact Check: Misleading Photos Circulating Claiming Akshay Kumar Is Anupam Kher’s Son Gain Traction

A photo of actor Anupam Kher with Akshay Kumar is being shared on social media with the claim that the latter is Kher’s son. The collage of four photos features Anupam Kher, with the fourth photo showing him with actor Akshay Kumar and the text claiming that Kumar is his son. A fact-check investigation by the PTI Fact Check Desk found that the claim in the text on the photo is false.

The first two photos in the collage featured Kher, the third showed him with wife Kirron Kher, and the fourth with Akshay Kumar labeled as “son.” The caption of the post with over 186k views talks about Anupam Kher’s contribution to Bollywood and presents old pictures of Kher. An English translation of the caption praises Kher’s success and mentions a special message to “Sikandar,” assuming he is Anupam Kher’s son.

However, the IMDb website states that Akshay Kumar was born as Rajiv Hari “Akshay Kumar” Om Bhatia to Aruna Bhatia and Hari Om Bhatia on September 09, 1967, in Amritsar, Punjab. Additionally, a report by Hindustan Times, published on October 31, 2023, includes a birthday message to Sikandar Kher, indicating that Sikandar is not related to Anupam Kher but is actually the son of someone else. Overall, the photo and the claim associating Akshay Kumar as Anupam Kher’s son have been found to be false.
