India’s Possible T20 World Cup Team After 4 Weeks of IPL 2024: Big Battle for Backup Opener, 3rd Spinner

According to reports, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh are certainties in India’s T20 World Cup squad. The remaining five slots will be finalized based on the players’ performances in the first four weeks of the ongoing T20 tournament. It is unlikely that any new player will be included for the T20 World Cup, as per a BCCI source. The national selection committee is expected to reward those who have consistently performed well in T20 Internationals and the IPL.

It is reported that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could open for India at the upcoming T20 World Cup. With some impressive performances from Indian players in the IPL 2024, discussions are ongoing about the back-up opener, second-choice wicketkeeper, middle-order finisher, and back-up spinner. The remaining five slots for the final 15-member squad will likely be chosen from 10 contenders. While Rohit and Virat are automatic selections, Shubman Gill is likely to be preferred over Yashasvi Jaiswal based on his form in the ongoing tournament.

India is expected to pick another wicket-keeper for the 15-member squad, with Sanju Samson and KL Rahul being the contenders. Based on their current form in IPL 2024, Sanju is likely to be picked. As finishers, Rinku and Shivam have been in great form, and either Yuzvendra Chahal or Ravi Bishnoi could bring variety as the only leg-spinner in the squad. With Jadeja in the squad, Axar’s inclusion looks doubtful.

Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan are expected to compete for a spot, with Arshdeep Singh being the preferred choice due to his left-arm variety and strong performance in IPL 2024.
