AAP Accuses Tihar Administration of Flip-Flop After “Slow Death” Plot Claim admin, April 20, 2024 AAP Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the jail administration, accusing them of inconsistency and reiterated the party’s allegation of a plan for Arvind Kejriwal’s “slow death” in prison. In a letter to AIIMS, Sanjay Baniwal requested the hospital to appoint a senior specialist for Mr. Kejriwal, despite the jail administration’s assurances of adequate provisions for his treatment. Bharadwaj and Delhi Minister Atishi claimed that Mr. Kejriwal is being denied insulin and consultations with his doctors, pushing him towards “slow death.” Atishi stated that he used to take 50 units of insulin daily before his imprisonment, raising concerns over the denial of insulin and consultations with his doctors. The Tihar administration maintains that there is ample availability of insulin in the jail dispensary and can be administered to Mr. Kejriwal “as and when required,” rejecting the allegations. Mr. Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money-laundering case related to the Delhi government’s excise policy prompted medical reviews in jail. Medical records and the Tihar report indicated that Mr. Kejriwal was not advised insulin and that his blood sugar levels did not warrant its administration during his treatment. The ED claimed that Mr. Kejriwal’s diet, high in sugar, was not in line with his type 2 diabetes condition, potentially to create grounds for medical bail. This led to a request to AIIMS for a diet plan, citing consumption of high-sugar and high-cholesterol foods. Mr. Kejriwal defended his food choices, stating they were consistent with his doctor’s diet chart. Arvind Kejriwal
