India’s Likely T20 World Cup Squad Revealed After 4 Weeks of IPL 2024: Tight Competition for Backup Opener, 3rd Spinner

The Indian T20 World Cup squad is starting to shape up. According to reports, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh are likely to be included. The remaining five slots will be determined based on players’ performance in the first four weeks of the ongoing IPL 2024.

The national selection committee is unlikely to include new players for the T20 World Cup, focusing on rewarding those who have consistently performed well in both T20 internationals and the IPL. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to open for India in the tournament, while some slots, such as second-choice wicketkeeper, back-up opener, finisher, and back-up spinner, are still being debated. Shubman Gill is likely to be preferred over Yashasvi Jaiswal as the back-up opener due to his good form in the IPL 2024.

Sanju Samson is expected to be the second-choice wicketkeeper based on his better form compared to KL Rahul. Rinku and Shivam are in contention for the finisher slot, with Rinku’s consistent performances making a strong case for his selection. Yuzvendra Chahal is favored over Ravi Bishnoi as the only leg-spinner in the squad.

Arshdeep Singh is expected to compete with Avesh Khan for a spot, with his left-arm variation giving him an advantage. However, Avesh Khan will need to improve his performance to make it to the final 15-member squad.
