India’s Potential T20 World Cup Team After 4 Weeks of IPL 2024: Big Battle for Spare Opener, 3rd Spinner

According to reports, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh are certainties in India’s T20 World Cup squad. The remaining five slots will be finalized based on the players’ performance in the first four weeks of the ongoing T20 tournament. A BCCI source informed news agency PTI that the national selection committee is unlikely to include any new player for the T20 World Cup. The source emphasized that there will be no experimentation or left-field selections, and players who have performed well consistently in T20 Internationals and the IPL will be rewarded.

It is reported that captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli could open for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The ongoing IPL 2024 has showcased impressive individual performances from Indian players, leading to debates on the back-up opener, second-choice wicketkeeper, one finisher slot in the middle-order, and the back-up spinner. With the marquee ICC tournament fast approaching, the final five slots from the 10 contenders will be chosen to complete the 15-member squad. Though Rohit and Virat are the automatic selections, Shubman Gill is likely to be preferred over Yashasvi Jaiswal based on his current form in the IPL 2024.

India is expected to pick another wicket-keeper in the 15-member squad. Sanju Samson and KL Rahul are contenders, with Sanju having better form in IPL 2024. As finishers, Rinku and Shivam have been in great form and are capable of adding much-needed firepower down the order. The selection of the only leg-spinner in the squad is between Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi, with Chahal likely to be the preferred choice on current form.

Additionally, Arshdeep Singh is expected to be the preferred choice as the left-arm pacer, bringing more variety to the bowling department.
