Jigar Shah, Indian-American, Featured in TIME’s Most Influential List

Jigar Shah, the founder and CEO of SunEdison, made it to TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list of 2024. His inclusion stands out due to his role as the Director of the US Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office. With over 25 years of experience in clean energy, project finance, and entrepreneurship, Mr. Shah has been instrumental in driving innovation and economic development in the energy sector. Mr. Shah’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA in Finance, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship from the University of Maryland – Robert H. Smith School of Business.

He also served as the President of Generate Capital, a company he co-founded, and authored the book “Creating Climate Wealth: Unlocking the Impact Economy.” Beyond his role at SunEdison, where he revolutionized the solar industry with the “solar as a service” model, Mr. Shah continues to be involved in successful projects such as Generate Capital. Currently, he oversees a substantial portfolio of over “$200 billion in government loans,” aimed at driving energy innovation to the market, making him a key figure in one of the largest economic development programs globally.
