Presence required on April 25″: Court orders BJP MP Pragya Thakur in Malegoan Blast Case.

Six people were killed and over 100 injured in a bombing near a mosque in Malegaon on September 29, 2008. The explosive device was strapped to a motorcycle. On April 8, the Special NIA Judge A K Lahoti granted exemption from personal appearance to Bhopal Lok Sabha MP Thakur, based on a compliance report submitted by the National Investigation Agency regarding her medical condition.

The judge asked her to be present in court without fail on April 20. When the court’s proceedings began on Saturday, Thakur, through her lawyer, moved an application for exemption from personal appearance, citing a critical medical condition. She stated that she hoped to be present before the court on April 25.

The NIA opposed her plea, noting that her medical certificate did not mention her inability to travel from Bhopal to Mumbai. After hearing both parties, the court noted that her medical certificate indicated a need for therapeutic intervention for approximately a week. Considering this, the court granted her a last chance and directed her to be present before the court on or before April 25, warning that necessary action will be taken if she fails to do so.
