Punjab Woman Pregnant With Twins Tied To Bed and Set On Fire by Husband

A 23-year-old pregnant woman died on the spot in an incident where the police reported that she was tied to a bed and set on fire by her husband after a heated argument. The tragic event took place in Bullenangal village near Amritsar. The police mentioned that the couple, Sukhdev and Pinky, had a strained relationship and would often quarrel. This escalated into a fatal altercation which led to Pinky’s death.

Following the incident, the National Commission for Women (NCW) demanded a detailed report from the Punjab Police and urged for the arrest of the perpetrator. In response to the NCW’s demand, the police managed to apprehend Sukhdev, who had been on the run after the incident. A case has been registered and an investigation is ongoing in the matter. The NCW condemned the heinous act and called for the swift arrest of the perpetrator, emphasizing the unimaginable brutality of the crime.

The chairperson of NCW, @sharmarekha, urged the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab to take action and submit a report within three days. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the gravity of domestic disputes and violence, particularly in cases where the victims are vulnerable, as in the case of Pinky, who was six months pregnant. It underscores the urgent need for measures to prevent such acts of violence and protect those at risk.
