Why Elon Musk Delayed Trip to India Due to Tesla Commitments

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced this morning that he has postponed his scheduled trip to India due to “very heavy Tesla obligations.” His two-day visit, during which he was expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reveal investment plans for his companies Tesla and SpaceX, was set to begin imminently.

Despite the delay, Musk expressed his anticipation for visiting India later in the year. Last week, Musk had expressed his eagerness to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India, and it was reported that he might arrive on April 21.

During a previous meeting in June, Musk assured the Prime Minister that Tesla would enter the Indian market “as soon as humanly possible.” The anticipated investments in India were estimated to be between $2-3 billion, with the visit potentially representing significant advancements for Tesla and Starlink, a satellite internet operator owned by Musk.

Tesla has been seeking new markets due to a decline in sales in the US and China, and India is considered a promising market, especially after the government reduced taxes on imported cars for companies that make local investments. Furthermore, Starlink is expected to receive initial approvals to operate in India, as reported by the news agency AFP.
