Yusuf Pathan, a retired cricketer, is gaining strength and confidence with each passing day in Baharampur, where he feels blessed to be embraced by the people. He is contesting for the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal on a Trinamool Congress ticket and is committed to working for the people’s better future. Pathan expressed his respect for the incumbent Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury but also highlighted the discontentment among the people regarding the absence of grassroots support during the Covid years. He emphasized the need for infrastructure, employment opportunities, and support for various industries in the region.

The decision to join the Lok Sabha poll fray came as a surprise to Pathan, who had initially been hesitant about entering politics. However, after consulting with his family and considering the opportunity to serve the people, he decided to accept the offer from Mamata Banerjee and the TMC. Despite being a devout Muslim, Pathan firmly believes in dissociating religion from politics and advocates for equal focus on the growth of the economy and development of all communities. He also emphasized that his identity as a cricketer will continue to be a significant part of his public image.
