P Chidambaram Makes Congress’ Major CAA Announcement During Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Amid Criticism From Pinarayi Vijayan

P Chidambaram has appealed to the public to vote the INDIA bloc to power in Delhi. He mentioned that the intention of the Congress party is to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), even though it is not explicitly stated in its manifesto. This comes in response to criticism from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the CPI(M), who have been pointing out the absence of any mention of the CAA in the Congress manifesto. Speaking to the media, P Chidambaram explained that the omission of the CAA from the manifesto was due to space constraints, asserting that the intention to repeal it is clear.

He criticized the BJP’s impact on the country during its 10-year rule and stated that the CAA will be repealed, not amended, once the INDIA bloc forms the government. Addressing the claims that the Congress has not opposed the CAA, Mr Chidambaram cited Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor’s opposition to the law in Parliament. He also downplayed the potential impact of the Ayodhya Ram temple inauguration on the elections, expressing hope that it would not play a role and emphasizing that it should not influence the political landscape. Furthermore, Mr Chidambaram criticized Mr Vijayan and the CPI(M), urging them to view this election as a national one rather than just a state election.

He emphasized the Congress’s position to combat the BJP and form a government at the national level. In conclusion, Chidambaram appealed to the public to vote for the INDIA bloc in the upcoming elections, highlighting that polling will be held on April 26 in Kerala for the Lok Sabha election, with nationwide results declared on June 4.
