Tihar Prison Counters AAP Accusations of Inconsistent Claims About Arvind Kejriwal admin, April 21, 2024 AAP Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the jail administration, alleging a flip-flop and reinforcing the party’s claim of a conspiracy for Arvind Kejriwal’s “slow death” in prison. In a letter to AIIMS, the Director General of Prisons requested the hospital to arrange a senior diabetologist for Mr. Kejriwal. The jail administration responded to the flip-flop charge, stating that a senior doctor from AIIMS had been consulted via video conferencing after a request by the Chief Minister’s wife. The administration assured that there was no serious concern for Mr. Kejriwal’s health and advised him to continue with prescribed medicines. However, AAP ministers claimed that Mr. Kejriwal was being denied insulin and consultations with his doctors, and alleged that a conspiracy was underway to kill him in jail. The Tihar administration maintained that insulin was available in the jail dispensary and could be administered as needed. Mr. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money-laundering case. The Tihar report stated that his health was reviewed, and insulin was not required based on medical records. The ED had stated that Mr. Kejriwal consumed high-sugar foods daily, creating grounds for medical bail, but he refuted these claims before the court, asserting that his diet was in line with his doctor’s recommendations.
