Tihar Prison Responds to Accusations of Inconsistency Regarding Arvind Kejriwal Claims by AAP admin, April 21, 2024 AAP Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the jail administration of flip-flopping and reiterated the party’s claim that a conspiracy was afoot for Arvind Kejriwal’s “slow death” in prison. In a letter to AIIMS, Sanjay Baniwal, Director General of Prisons, requested the hospital to arrange a senior diabetologist for Mr. Kejriwal. Following the AAP Minister’s flip-flop charge, the jail administration stated that a senior doctor from AIIMS was consulted via video conferencing at the request of the Chief Minister’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal. The administration assured that there was no serious concern for Mr. Kejriwal and advised him to continue with prescribed medicines, to be evaluated and reviewed regularly. Delhi Minister Atishi and Mr. Bharadwaj claimed that Mr. Kejriwal was being pushed towards “slow death” by being denied insulin and consultations with his doctors, with Atishi highlighting Mr. Kejriwal’s daily insulin intake before he was sent to jail. They alleged a conspiracy by the BJP to harm Mr. Kejriwal in jail. The Tihar administration refuted these claims, stating that there was adequate availability of insulin in the jail dispensary and it could be administered to Mr. Kejriwal as and when required. According to the medical records from RML Hospital, it was indicated that Mr. Kejriwal was not advised insulin and his health was reviewed by a specialist on multiple occasions. The ED had informed the court that Mr. Kejriwal was consuming high-sugar food daily, despite having type 2 diabetes, to create grounds for medical bail. The administration had previously sought a diet plan for Mr. Kejriwal, alleging his consumption of high-sugar and high-cholesterol food. Mr. Kejriwal refuted these claims, stating that the food he consumed was in line with his doctor’s diet chart. Arvind Kejriwal
